Divorce is never an easy process, even in the best of circumstances. But what do you do when the divorce case gets ugly? When things get heated, it can be easy to make decisions out of anger or frustration, which leads to regret later on. It’s important to stay level-headed and take the appropriate steps to protect yourself and your future during a Singapore divorce process:

TIP #1: HIRE A GOOD LAWYER

The first thing you should do when the divorce case gets ugly is to hire a good lawyer. A good criminal and family lawyer in Singapore will guide you through the legal process and help you make informed decisions. They will also be able to provide emotional support and act as a buffer between you and your ex-spouse.

    TIP #2: DOCUMENT EVERYTHING

It’s also important to document everything. Keep a detailed record of all communication between you and your ex-spouse, including phone calls, emails, and text messages, which will help your lawyer build a case for you and protect your interests.

    TIP #3: PROTECT YOUR ASSETS

Another step is to protect your assets, which may involve freezing joint bank accounts or transferring assets into your name only. Be sure to consult with your lawyer before making any major financial decisions.

    TIP #4: PRIORITISE YOUR CHILDREN

If you have children, it’s important to prioritise their well-being. Try to keep your children out of any conflict and ensure they feel loved and supported. Consider seeing a therapist or counsellor to help you and your children navigate this difficult time. (Tip: File a personal protection order in Singapore when someone victimises you and the family.)

TIP #5: TAKE CARE OF YOUR HEALTH

It is also important to take care of yourself. Divorce can be emotionally and physically draining, so get enough sleep, eat well, and exercise regularly. Consider seeing a therapist or joining a support group to help you manage your stress and emotions.

TIP #6: PREPARE FOR A LEGAL BATTLE

Finally, be prepared for the possibility of a court battle. If your divorce case does end up in court, be sure to have a strong legal strategy in place. Your lawyer should be able to advise you on the best course of action or the proper procedures in family law in Singapore.
